Telco TV Poised for Robust Growth in Next Few Years

WEBWIRE

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., September 6, 2005 - Telecommunications providers in many parts of the world are rolling out, or will soon roll out, TV services, reports In-Stat (http://www.in-stat.com). At the end of 2004, there were 1.6 million Telco TV subscribers, the high-tech market research firm says, and it forecasts that number to rise to 32 million by the end of 2009, with over half of the total coming from Asia.

“Many telcos start their deployment offering broadcast TV and VOD,” says Michelle Abraham, In-Stat analyst. “Advanced services like Digital Video Recording (DVR), HDTV, and additional communications applications are layered on later.”

A recent report by In-Stat found the following:

- In North America, Verizon and SBC are getting close to a commercial launch of their TV services, however, franchise regulations or the lack thereof will determine the pace.
- Broadcast TV content processing, on-demand content processing, content security, and middleware revenues for telco TV will surpass $600 million in 2009.
- In Europe, the national PTTs and competitive broadband service providers are eager to offer triple play solutions with high-speed Internet access, voice over IP, and TV.

The report, “Telco TV In Mass Deployment Phase” (#IN0501842MB), covers the worldwide market for telco deployments of digital TV over DSL and next-generation networks, such as Fiber-To-The Home (FTTH). The report includes forecasts of telco TV subscribers, equipment revenue, service revenue, and analysis of the factors driving this market.
