Opera Ball Honors Sarasota Opera’s Executive Director

Sarasota Opera presents the fourth annual Opera Ball on Saturday December 18th at 7:00 PM in The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota’s Grand Ballroom. The Ball has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the Sarasota social calendar and was recently named by Sarasota Magazine as the area’s number one black tie event. This year the celebration will celebrate Susan Danis’ extraordinary achievements during her 5 years as Executive Director of Sarasota Opera . The evening will feature cocktails, a lavish dinner, a tribute to Ms. Danis, and ballroom dancing well into the evening. About the Sarasota Opera

Sarasota Opera’s 45th season will run from November 12, 2004 to May 15, 2005. This season continues the Opera’s acclaimed and successful mix of presenting well-known operatic masterpieces alongside lesser-known, artistically significant operas in a festival format. Fall programs include Up Close, Informal, On Stage November 12th, and Opera’s Great Moment’s Concert Nov. 18 & 20. The Winter Opera Festival, January 29 to March 19, 2005, includes Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a double bill of Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggiero Leoncavallo, Stiffelio by Giuseppe Verdi and Lakmé by Leo Delibes. All operas are presented in the original language with a real-time English translation projected above the stage. The Sarasota Youth Opera, a year-round program of the Sarasota Opera, will present The Little Sweep by composer Benjamin Britten May 14 and 15, 2005.

Sarasota Opera is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Programs are supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and by the Tourist Development Tax through the Board of County Commissioners, the Tourist Development Council and the Sarasota County Arts Council. Additional funding is provided by the City of Sarasota and the County of Sarasota.
