Effective immediately, or as existing contracts permit, BASF is raising its prices for the carboxylic acids 2 ethylhexanoic acid, formic acid and mixtures based on formic acid and propionic acid in Europe.

2-Ethylhexanoic acid: + €40 per metric ton
Formic acid, 85%: + €40 per metric ton

Mixtures containing formic acid and propionic acid:
Lupro-Cid® (64% formic acid content): + €50 per metric ton
Lupro-Mix® (43% formic acid content): + €30 per metric ton

BASF’s customers successfully use formic acid and mixes containing formic acid in multiple applications. In animal nutrition, they serve to improve feed hygiene and digestion, and as a result allow food of animal origin to be produced in a particularly eco-efficient manner. In breweries and wineries formic acid disinfects kegs, casks and barrels; applied as an auxiliary in the pharmaceutical and crop protection industry it regulates pH values; in cleaning it acts as dirt remover and disinfectant. Propionic acid is used as a food and feed preservative, for making vitamin E and in a variety of chemical applications. BASF is the world’s leading producer of formic acid and propionic acid, with production plants at its integrated Verbund sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Nanjing, China.

2-Ethylhexanoic acid is a chemical intermediate for many different industrial applications, for example for the manufacture of plasticizers, PVC stabilizers, lubricants and drying additives for coatings. BASF, a leading global supplier of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, makes this intermediate at its Ludwigshafen Verbund site.
