How green is your home? Trial scheme for Londoners

Being ’green’ can sometimes seem like a bit of a hassle but a new limited service from the London Development Agency (LDA) takes care of all the stress for you - and can save you money in the process.

The Green Homes Concierge scheme is a pilot scheme for homeowners in London which will ’audit’ your home and the energy you use or waste. The service will draw up a bespoke plan of action for changes you can make, from blocking draughts to better insulation, and the service will even take care of getting any improvements carried out. With an initial cost from as little as £99 you could soon be reaping the benefits of a more environmentally efficient home with cheaper energy bills.

Helen Keenan, Director of Climate Change Programmes at the LDA, said:

"There are no end of news stories telling us we’re not doing enough for the environment, so we’re all well aware of the need to be greener but with an overwhelming plethora of services and goods on the market, lots of us just don’t know where to start or think it’s all too difficult or expensive.

"This trial scheme will guide people through that maze and provide a bespoke service tailored to your needs and lifestyle. It all starts with an assessment of your home which will highlight areas where energy savings can be made from little changes like adding draught proofing to identified ’cold-spots’ to more significant home improvements such as installing a more efficient boiler.

And it will help you understand how you can save money in the long run by thinking green now. You’ll be presented with your own home report setting out the recommendations and once you’ve decided what you would like done, we’ll organise it all for you - making the whole thing hassle free"

The service has already been piloted in Lewisham and is being extended for a further three months across London. One householder who used the scheme said:

“It was an interesting and enjoyable experience to have our house ’green audited’. It meant we gained a better insight into the whole climate change issue and how it affects us as an ordinary family - how unwittingly we were contributing to global warming by losing heat through draughts and gaps around the house.”

Time is short to take up this limited offer so act now. Find out more information about the concierge service by visiting GreenHomesLondon website or telephone 0800 0890098
