BMO continues to expand its participation in soccer

BMO Insurance announced today that it will be the official insurance services supporter of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007, making BMO Insurance one of the four National Supporters of the tournament.

“We are very proud to be a part of the FIFA U-20 World Cup,” said Gordon Henderson, Senior Vice-President, Insurance, BMO Financial Group. “This tournament is going to be something special, drawing a wide audience from across Canada and around the world. Our participation gives us the chance to build exposure and brand recognition for BMO Insurance and establish ourselves as a strong supporter of soccer in Canada.”

Starting June 30 and lasting just over three weeks, the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 will feature some of the best young soccer players in the world who are already making their mark in dozens of professional soccer leagues in Europe, Asia, North America and South America. Six major Canadian cities will host 24 countries playing 52 matches, with Toronto set to host the championship final.

As part of the sponsorship, BMO Insurance will have brand visibility at all 52 matches both inside and outside the stadiums, along with advertising in event program magazines and visible placement during post-match press conferences.

This announcement marks another milestone in BMO’s commitment to soccer in Canada. BMO Insurance’s sponsorship complements BMO’s partnerships with Toronto FC, the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Canadian Soccer Association.

“Soccer is hugely popular, particularly among many of Canada’s cultural communities,” said Henderson. “We want to inspire soccer involvement at all levels in Canada. Our participation in soccer represents a great opportunity for us to deepen our relationships with customers and communities right across the country.”

Henderson noted that soccer in Canada is expected to grow in participation and fan base by 44 per cent over the next 10 years. “We are thrilled to be a part of the excitement of the world’s most popular sport.”
