Device Offers Resistance Ranges from 20 Ω to 10 MΩ and 1 % Typical Contact Resistance Variation for Industrial Control Applications

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced a new compact panel potentiometer with a cermet element and a high 2-W power rating.

With US bushing threads and a fully sealed package, the PRV4 is intended for industrial control panel, heavy-duty control, and position control applications in end products including trucks and tractors, HVAC systems, welding machines, tooling machines, field and mine equipment, and water-resistant equipment.

With only a 19.6-mm diameter, the new device is smaller than other 2-W panel potentiometers, offering designers a compact alternative to the Mil RV4. Its cermet element provides better stability than carbon elements, while its nickel-plated brass shaft offers greater reliability and robustness. Custom shafts are available in accordance to drawings supplied by customers.

The new Vishay Sfernice device offers resistance ranges from 20 Ω to 10 MΩ, with a low 1 % typical contact resistance variation. The potentiometer features a maximum operating torque of 4.3 oz.-inch, and an end stop torque of 6 lb.-inch. An operating temperature range of –55 °C to +125 °C ensures reliable operation even in extreme environments.

The PRV4 uses faston 2.86 connections and its electrical performance is in accordance with MIL-PRF-94 standards. Samples and production quantities of the PRV4 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
