Clear Channel Radio Partners to Support Virginia Tech Radio Station

WEBWIRE

For several months, the campus radio station at Virginia Tech, WUVT, has experienced extensive technical difficulties resulting from age and undesirable environmental conditions due to its location atop a student dormitory. In the wake of the tragic events that unfolded at Virginia Tech on April 16, a tremendous amount of support for the university has come from many directions. Upon hearing that the Virginia Tech campus radio station’s Chief Engineer, Kevin Sterne was wounded in the deadly shooting rampage, Steve Davis, Senior Vice President of Engineering for Clear Channel Radio, Chriss Scherer, President of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and others came together to restore full licensed power to the aging campus transmitter.

Work by Clear Channel Radio, the SBE and other organizations brought the campus station up to full power on April 22. Clear Channel donated a Harris Z5 transmitter, a transmitter building, a back-up transmitter, an antenna and engineering support to assist with the transmitter’s move to a more desirable broadcasting location.

WUTV is up and running at full power, but they have an ongoing need for donations of cash and equipment. For information about how you can help, please call 540-231-9880 or visit www.wuvt.vt.edu.
