Duke Energy Announces Academic Scholars for 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Duke Energy announced today that 20 children of Duke Energy employees have been selected to receive the 2007 Duke Energy scholarships made possible by The Duke Energy Foundation.
Fifteen recipients will receive up to $5,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. Five students were named alternates and will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship.
Scholarship recipients must be graduating high school/secondary school seniors and are chosen annually by an independent committee of judges. The committee reviews and selects applicants based on their performance in academics, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors and awards, work experience and financial need.
The Duke Energy scholarship program is about supporting the work force of tomorrow and is indicative of the companys commitment to education as well as to our employees and retirees, said Hilary Davidson, director, community & stakeholder relations. We are proud that for the last four decades The Duke Energy Foundations scholarship program has benefited hundreds of families across our service territory.
