Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST Enterprise-Class Server Achieves Best-in-Class Performance in Java Server Benchmark

WEBWIRE

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced that the PRIMEQUEST(R) 580 server has achieved a best-in-class record in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC(R))(1) Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb(R)2005), with performance of 1,214,351 business operations per second.(2)

PRIMEQUEST 580 servers offer data center-class reliability, scalability and availability on an open 64-bit high-performance platform. Designed with Fujitsu mainframe expertise, PRIMEQUEST servers are ideal for mission-critical applications such as large-scale database systems and online transaction processing environments.

SPECjbb2005 is a benchmark test developed by SPEC to evaluate the performance of servers running Java-based applications. It simulates the processing of actual wholesale industry business tasks, such as ordering, shipping, receipts and payment processing, inventory management and customer data management. Thus, the results can be used as an index of processing performance that reflects real-world business operations.

Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST servers are the world’s most powerful open systems servers, combining the economy of open-standards with the reliability of a mainframe. The systems use up to 32 high-performance 64-bit dual-core Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processors, with a Fujitsu-developed chipset that maximizes the reliability and scalability of the processor.

“Based on Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processors, the Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server line delivers the high performance, high availability and low total cost of ownership needed by enterprises to build their massively scalable and flexible mission-critical environments,” said Diane Bryant, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group and general manager, Server Platforms Group, Intel Corp.

“Fujitsu designs and builds business solutions that ensure our customers can operate at maximum productivity and profitability,” said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Computer Systems. “The combination of the PRIMEQUEST family of servers and dual-core Intel Itanium processors gives enterprises the power, reliability, and flexibility they need to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace.”

PRIMEQUEST servers can provide a large single-image platform for hosting consolidated databases and high transaction volumes, or can be partitioned into 16 hardware-isolated partitions, each one a fully independent “server.” Reliability and availability are ensured through the Dual Synchronous System Architecture that provides fault immunity to transient errors in cross bars or memory.

The PRIMEQUEST server line is offered as part of the Fujitsu TRIOLE(R) strategy for optimizing customers’ IT infrastructures comprising servers, storage systems, networks and middleware. Based on the TRIOLE strategy, Fujitsu designs, develops and deploys highly reliable, business-critical data centers in heterogeneous environments to increase business continuity, agility and efficiency.
