Cedarcom Announces ADSL services in Lebanon based on Nokia Siemens Networks Platform

Beirut, Lebanon, May 9th, 2007 - Cedarcom, SAL, the leading nationwide wireless data provider in Lebanon offering business class Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) services and Mobi - Mobile Broadband Wireless Access services (MBWA), announced a partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks to offer ADSL services in Lebanon.

“Through this partnership, Cedarcom will have the opportunity to become a leading ADSL carrier in addition to its leading position as fixed & mobile broadband wireless access carrier”, said Mr. Imad Tarabay, Chairman & CEO of Cedarcom. “Cedarcom will be among the first data operators to offer ADSL services and we will start this service in the coming weeks covering 36 exchanges all over Lebanon. Our excellent relationships with Nokia Siemens Networks will add value to our proposition in delivery of future value added services in Lebanon”, continued Imad Tarabay.

“After the successful launch of Mobi – Mobile Broadband Internet using pre-802.20 standards, and the high demand that users had for Mobi, it became obvious to us that ADSL will be the next big success and the high demand for it among the Lebanese population. The telecom law 431 had taken effect after the establishment of the Telecom Regulator Authority board, setting the cornerstone in the deregulation which we are starting to witness. As in every country that deregulates, the internet penetration rates increase sharply, leading to positive economic movement. Lebanon currently stands at around 12% internet penetration rate, and it is believed by many that based on the education levels, PC penetration rates, as well as other considerations, Lebanon will increase its internet penetration rates to reach levels of 40% within 2 years. This translates to around 1.6 million internet users by 2009. Cedarcom will certainly position itself as the leading broadband carrier offering Mobile Broadband Services, xDSL Services and Fixed Broadband Wireless Services ready to capture this market and deliver its top notch quality of service.” said Imad Tarabay.

“The mix of products and services that Cedarcom offers today, in addition to ADSL, will place Cedarcom in a unique market position offering Fixed Broadband Wireless services based on WiMAX standards, Mobile Broadband Wireless services (Mobi) based on pre-802.20 standards, and xDSL. This will certainly give us an edge over our legacy competitors” stated Imad Tarabay.

“We are very confident that Cedarcom will continue in its successful venture like we accustomed our clients, focusing on customer care and satisfaction. We will introduce the best of ADSL bread to the market, just like we did in the fixed and mobile broadband wireless access services.” said Cedarcom General Manager Ibrahim S Ibrahim.

Mr. Ibrahim continued detailing Cedarcom’s many FIRSTS:
• The first carrier to implement MPLS in its core network in Lebanon;
• The first carrier to implement Fixed Broadband Wireless MPLS based services in the Middle East;
• The first carrier to implement WiMAX based broadband MPLS Layer 2 Switching services”; and
• The first carrier to implement true Mobile Broadband Wireless Internet access “Mobi” in the Middles East.
