WASHINGTON – Fairfax County, Va. has awarded a blanket purchase agreement to Nortel Government Solutions*, a U.S. company wholly owned by Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT], under the County’s IT Services and Expert Assistance contract. The agreement covers five years and includes three, one-year renewal options.

Nortel Government Solutions already provides development and operational support for the Fairfax County Courts Automated Recording System (CARS), which provides more than 2,000 users each day with automated access to more than 35 million recorded images and indexes dating back to 1742.

“Our existing work with the Fairfax County Circuit Court demonstrates our expertise in developing, deploying and managing services across multiple networks,” said Chuck Saffell, chief executive officer, Nortel Government Solutions. “Now we hope to leverage that expertise to extend across the entire county some of the same benefits we’ve provided to the Court.”

The new agreement enables Nortel Government Solutions to provide Fairfax County with IT services including database management system development and technical support, electronic records management and information services, and information security.

It also includes management studies, a range of IT services associated with business issues, such as analysis and evaluation of systems and procedures, tactical planning, benchmarking, new technology analysis, performance measurement and economic analysis. Other examples include systems architecture planning and design, policy and procedures development, and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliance assessment and recommendations.

Nortel Government Solutions has maintained and enhanced CARS for more than 10 years. In August 2006, Nortel Government Solutions announced a US$1.6 million contract with the Fairfax County Circuit Court to continue supporting the system for another five years.
