LaCie Presents A Sneak Peek At Artist Yann-Arthus Bertrand’s New Project
Paris (May 2007) – LaCie today announced it is offering a sneak peek at renowned artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s new video documentary entitled 6 Billion Others. Beginning today in Europe, a special promotional disc will be included with each newly purchased hard drive in the LaCie Extreme Desktop Series as used by Yann and his team. Promo discs will also be included with the portable LaCie Little Big Disk, and LaCie d2 Quadra with quadruple Interface.
A limited run of discs was produced using innovative LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling laser-etching, CD and DVD labeling technology. LightScribe is available separately with any LaCie disc writer.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand is best known for his photography exhibit Earth From Above. His latest project focuses on inhabitants of the Earth, the six billion people alive today. Yann set out with the goal of collecting 6,000 interviews from people in 60 countries by the end of 2007. A team of six directors traverses the globe taking snapshots and recording testimonials in HDV. Photos are stored, edited, and shuttled around the office on four 500GB LaCie Big Disk Extreme drives.
Yann’s Production Manager Florent Gillard said, “We use Macs, so having three interfaces-in-one gives us the option to edit quickly over FireWire 800 or shuttle data to multiple machines with FireWire 400/USB. We trust our Big Disk Extremes to safely store more than 2TB of data for the 6 Billion Others project. They’re quiet and stand vertical, which saves a lot of space. LaCie developed reliable external drives with the speed and space needed to edit and store pictures and video. They work right out of the box!”
LaCie Hard Disk Drive Business Unit Manager Olivier Mirloup said, “LaCie has been a long-time supporter of professional photographers worldwide. We offer a storage solution for every professional need: the portable, all-terrain 160GB Rugged Hard Drive with a drop-resistant bumper, the powerful and convenient d2 Extreme and Quadra Series designed to facilitate multiple storage applications, and state-of-the-art products such as 2.5TB SATA II 3Gbits/s RAID systems for studios. Because of this dedication to simplicity and usability, LaCie consistently receives awards for technological excellence and design.”
The LaCie Extreme Series and Quadra Hard Drives offer large capacities in sleek, aluminum alloy cases to dissipate heat. All disks come equipped with triple or quadruple interfaces for maximum versatility. FireWire 800 and eSATA gives video editors the speed they need for editing, while FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 offer universal access on both Windows/Mac OS without the need to install drivers. In an exclusive design by Neil Poulton, these disks can be conveniently stacked, stood upright or rack-mounted.
