SAN FRANCISCO - For the third year in a row, Catholic Healthcare West has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in the San Francisco Bay Area among companies with 3000 or more employees.

“We are honored to receive this recognition, as we strive to be an employer of choice in all our communities,” says Lloyd Dean, CHW president/CEO. “We have outstanding people who serve our patients every day. This distinction is especially gratifying because it is a direct reflection of what our employees feel about being part of this organization.”

CHW employs 4,700 people in the Bay Area at three hospitals -- Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and Sequoia Hospital -- as well as at its corporate headquarters in San Francisco. The organization was ranked fourth in the “Giant Companies” category. In the rankings, CHW follows Genentech, Comcast and Washington Mutual. Rounding out the top five is California Pacific Medical Center.

To be eligible for the recognition, at least 8 percent of a company’s employees were required to respond to an online survey. The survey was comprised of 37 questions measuring employee satisfaction across 10 different categories, including: team effectiveness, retention risk, alignment with goals, trust with co-workers, individual contribution, manager effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, work engagement and people practices.

“We value our employees for who they are, not just what they do,” says Ernie Urquhart, CHW’s senior vice president/chief human resources officer. “Our employees tell us that they are listened to and that they feel empowered and respected in their work to provide excellent, compassionate care. In addition, by offering some of the best reward programs in the country, we continue to attract and retain healthcare’s best and brightest.”
