Kyushu University Hospital Creates Next-Generation Medical Services Enviroment With Norte Solution
TOKYO - Kyushu University Hospital is providing patients, their families and entire local communities with next-generation medical services through a new clinical grade medical information network powered by Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] Heathcare Solutions.
One of the leading national hospitals in the Kyushu region in southern Japan, Kyushu University Hospital upgraded its current IT system to a new medical service infrastructure to enable information to be more efficiently stored, managed, retrieved and shared amongst physicians and medical staff.
Built on the hospital’s vision to offer patient-oriented, one-stop medical services, the new clinical grade next-generation network provides anywhere, anytime, quick access to information such as diagnosis data, X-ray and ultrasound imaging - and real-time readings of patient vital signs and operating theater monitoring. Real-time access to this important information creates an environment for primary physicians, specialists and medical staff to collaborate more efficiently for remote consultations, diagnosis and patient care.
“The new network from Nortel is an excellent example of how our technology can improve quality healthcare services and patients’ quality of life by simplifying the complexity for medical providers to access and share information,” said Nick Vreugdenhil, president, Nortel Japan. “Kyushu University Hospital’s new medical service infrastructure is an excellent example of Nortel delivering on the promise of Business Made Simple for the healthcare industry and enterprises.”
In addition, the Kyushu University Hospital plans to accumulate clinical data and diagnosis information and share it with researchers and regional educational bodies for medical research to improve the quality of future medical services.
The new medical information network, part of Nortel’s clinical grade Healthcare Solutions, was built upon Nortel’s Ethernet networking technology including Nortel’s Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) 8600 providing 10 Gigabit connectivity and Nortel’s unique SMLT (Split MultiLink Trunking) technology to support Secure Always-on Networking. Also part of the solution, the ERS 5000 series is designed to provide high-density Gigabit desktop connectivity, and the ERS 3510 is a cost effective, high performance Layer 2/3 switch at the edge.
The network systems were delivered through Nortel channel partner Fuji Xerox, and the integration and the day-to-day system management delivered by Sumitomo Densetsu and ACK.
