WEBWIRE

Release date: 15 July 2005

BP Retail in the UK, has renewed its exclusive, long-term agreement with Nectar.

BP was one of the key founder members of the loyalty scheme when it was launched by LMUK in September 2002.

Commenting on the new agreement, Graham Sims, Retail Director, BP UK said: “We are delighted to be renewing our contract with Nectar. The loyalty scheme has been of great benefit and value to BP. We know from customer research that Nectar is one of the main reasons why customers choose a BP site over other brands.”

“Nectar is a distinctive part of the BP brand customer offer – we have seen an 80% increase in active collectors since the start of the scheme,” he said.

Chris Sedgwick, BP Retail UK’s Marketing Director said: “It is easy for consumers to be disloyal when buying fuel. Nectar has changed this for BP. Through consumer research and analysis we know that Nectar delivers double digit incremental % sales and gross margin to our business. Looking ahead we will be further increasing the benefit customers receive from Nectar. We are currently trialling the printing of special offer vouchers for customers at our till points. Each offer is individually targeted and specific to that customer, utilising our Nectar data”.

“Any retail business selling products purchased relatively frequently, in a highly competitive market place, should consider joining Nectar.”

Brian Sinclair, Client Services Director, from LMUK said: “BP is an integral partner in the Nectar programme and is one of the main places where our collectors earn lots of points. We are delighted that BP has renewed their relationship with us and we look forward to continuing to make a positive difference to its business”.

50% of UK households are currently earning Nectar points from 17 sponsors including BP, Sainsbury’s, Threshers, EDF energy and Debenhams. From September 2005, the Nectar Credit Card from American Express will be available and will be the richest and most rewarding credit card for Nectar collectors offering double Nectar points at Nectar retailers.
