Tesco named Hitwise Top 10 award winner for 2006

Tesco, the UK’s leading food and wine retailer, is one of the big winners of the Hitwise Top 10 Online Performance Awards for 2006.

Over the course of 2006, Tesco.com ranked first place for visits among all other UK websites in the Hitwise Shopping and Classifieds - Grocery and Alcohol category, with the Tesco Wine Club coming in at eighth place in the same category.

Tesco Wine Club has been flourishing online, with wine festivals held twice a year. March and April 2007 saw Tesco’s Champagne Festival, with prices slashed up to 33 per cent on a range of cases of champagne online. Tesco’s variety of wine to buy online includes award winning champagnes as well as wine that caters to special diets - so vegetarian, vegan and organic consumers won’t be left out.

Mid April to mid May 2007 sees the next twice-yearly Tesco Wine Festival, which offers up to 50% off a wide range of selected white and red wines. So whether wine fans are looking for the finest Australian Merlots or the best deals on red wine from the Bordeaux region of France, Tesco’s Wine Festival will deliver.

Tesco Wine Club also offers consumers some great mixed wine cases, which are the perfect way to experiment with their range of varied and rewarding wines. This way, customers are able to experiment with a selection of recognised wines and champagnes without having to invest in a separate case for each of them - and it’s deals like this that have played a vital role in securing Tesco Wine’s position at number eight in the Hitwise Top 10 Shopping and Classifieds - Grocery and Alcohol category for 2006.

The Hitwise UK Online Performance Awards celebrates the most successful UK websites in 50 key selected industries, based on the market share of visits a website has received throughout 2006. Tesco Books online also ranked fourth place in the Shopping and Classifieds - Books category, while Tesco Flowers came in at number three for Shopping and Classifieds - Flowers and Gifts.
