RSA® Card Manager Solution Vital to Nationwide Homeland Security Demonstration
RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC), today announced that it participated in the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) disaster preparedness Winter Storm demonstration last month. The goal of the demonstration was to validate the functionality of the First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC), bringing together federal, state and local first responders as well as the Department of Defense (DoD) and intelligence agencies. The FRAC is an identity management system for emergency responders that creates a common, interoperable credential enabling first responders to quickly and easily access government buildings and incident areas in the event of a disaster. The cards, which are compliant with Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS 201), are engineered to save significant time and help responders more effectively assist victims.
In support of the Winter Storm demonstration, lead contractor General Dynamics Information Technology provided its ChoiceID™ managed service solution, developed and delivered in partnership with Lockheed Martin, for enrollment support and privilege hosting for the FRAC cards. The General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin team issued cards through RSA ® Card Manager to first responders in the Pennsylvania Region 13 Task Force in the Pittsburgh area, Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council for Trauma Medicine (STRAC) in the San Antonio area, and Maryland customers including Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

Approved by the General Services Administration and compliant with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201, RSA Card Manager is designed to help federal agencies and organizations enroll users, manage the identity validation process, request and consolidate credentials; then print, issue, and manage smart cards throughout their lifecycle in compliance with HSPD-12. As required for GSA approval, RSA Card Manager is engineered to be an interoperable system that supports a broad range of third-party HSPD-12 solution components, including PIV-II cards, biometrics technology, hardware security modules and externally managed public key infrastructure offered by approved Shared Service Providers. An interoperable solution helps ensure that customers can leverage existing technology investments and benefit from vendor flexibility while supporting efforts to address HSPD-12 requirements.
