MADRID, Spain, - Telvent GIT S.A. has signed a contract of approximately five million euro with the City of Bayannur Police Department in China to supply traffic control and road safety systems.

Telvent is implementing a project that will enhance the city of Bayannur’s road infrastructure by providing integrated traffic control systems. It will facilitate vehicle and pedestrian control and safety, reduce congestion, and optimize operation of the city’s transportation networks.

According to Manuel Sanchez Ortega, Telvent chairman and chief executive officer, “This is a very exciting project that we were able to capture as a result of our increased presence in China through our subsidiary, Telvent Blue Shield. The project is a great example of the opportunities we see for Telvent in implementing integrated applications across China as the country continues the upgrading of its infrastructure.”

The project involves the installation of a computerized control center from where all the orders for the city’s traffic management will be issued. This control center will be connected to the various systems Telvent will install, including traffic regularization and optimization at traffic-light controlled intersections, supervision of traffic flow on the main roadways, and traffic monitoring and control by cameras located across the city. Telvent’s technology will enable real-time monitoring of car registration plates to identify possible stolen vehicles and the detection and provision of critical information on any vehicle. It will also detect and manage, via the Web, breaches of traffic regulations or emergency situations that may arise on the roadways.

Telvent has been active in China since 1990, and has developed similar projects in other cities, including Shekou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanning or Tianjing. Telvent is also developing projects in China in the energy and electric segments.
