Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world’s top dedicated foundries, today announced that its president and chief executive officer, Chia Song Hwee, was honored with the EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Award for Executive of the Year. Honors were presented at the EE Times ACE Awards Gala on April 3, 2007, as part of the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley, the largest electronic systems design event in North America.

“I am flattered to be included in the select company of the other nominees in this category and in all the ACE Award categories. It is indeed an honor to be recognized by the prestigious selection committee and the world-renowned publication EE Times,” said Chia. “On behalf of the more than 5,000 employees of Chartered, and all our partners and customers who were instrumental in helping us achieve the results we have had, I gratefully accept this award as recognition of much hard work and commitment by many, many individuals.”

Chartered offers leading-edge technologies down to 65 nanometer (nm), enabling today’s system-on-chip designs. Together with its joint-development partners, it has helped define a new collaborative model for semiconductor collaboration, and bring flexibility to the market through the unique Common Platform technology model the company initiated in 2002.

The ACE Award for Executive of the Year recognizes an individual who brought leadership, technological and fiscal vision to a company, organization or company division.

“As CEO, Mr. Chia Song Hwee achieved all the corporate goals set after he took over Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing in 2002, and also helped drive a new collaboration paradigm in the semiconductor manufacturing industry with the Common Platform model,” said Brian Fuller, editor in chief of EE Times. “Mr. Chia is very deserving of this Award due to all his accomplishments, as well as his drive to turn the company around to becoming a more profitable operation and, more importantly, positioning the company for sustainable profitability and free cash flow generation in the future.”

The EE Times ACE Awards were created to recognize the people, companies and products that show leadership in the electronics industry, honoring those who are leading the way and making positive contributions--the real innovators of technology. Finalists were evaluated by a prestigious panel of judges, comprised of the leading voices of academia, industry and Wall Street executives. For more information, visit http://www.eetimes.com/ace.
