Macrovision Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN) today introduced a new version of its FLEXnet Manager product, version 11.0. This release includes new capabilities to help enterprises reduce the operational cost of software administration and gain a better understanding of how software licenses are being used globally throughout their organization.

The new version incorporates an enhanced report configuration wizard, a new report to help manage software usage and improved product performance capabilities. These new features, combined with FLEXnet Manager’s customer tested centralized license usage tracking and accurate real-time reporting capabilities, help provide IT administrators with increased productivity and greater compliance with software license contracts.

ARC Advisory Group estimates that enterprises will spend a total of $1.5 billion this year on asset management software1. The process of managing software assets has become a priority for CIO and IT Managers. Chartered to decrease costs and increase productivity, many are leaving behind time-consuming manual practices and using automated license management software to reduce their IT spending and improve the quality of generated data.

“Corporate IT leaders in organizations of all sizes need a simple yet powerful automated tool to effectively purchase and manage their software licenses,” said Corey Ferengul, senior vice president of Product and Solutions Management at Macrovision. “With FLEXnet Manager 11.0, IT leaders are able to purchase the precise number of licenses they need, which can lead to decreased licensing costs. FLEXnet Manager also allows them to manage the reporting function with greater control and help them eliminate the data inaccuracies that occur with a manual process.”

FLEXnet Manager 11.0 provides real-time usage alerts and updates (versus the traditional queried inventory model) to asset managers whenever license usage is nearing or exceeding set limits. Other enhancements introduced in FLEXnet Manager 11.0 include:

-A new database-powered reporting engine that offers improved performance, enhanced data accuracy and flexibility in customizing reports.

-The addition of a new report called “Peak Usage and Denial,” which determines peak and lean licensing trends to help IT administrators effectively manage software usage.

-Enhanced report configuration wizard for ease of use, more reporting options and better graphics.

-Extended platform and database support for Redhat Enterprise 4.0, Windows Vista through Internet Explorer 7 and Solaris 10 along with MySQL 5.0, SQL server 2005 and Oracle 10g for databases.

FLEXnet Manager is a featured product in Macrovision’s Software Compliance and Software License Management Solutions, for Corporate IT and Independent Software Vendors.
