American Red Cross Announces Kar’s Nuts Partnership; Promotion Runs Week of July 4 to Help Meet Critical Need for Blood in Southeast Michigan

DETROIT, June 22 -- While families celebrate the country’s 4th of July holiday, the critical need for blood continues. To help meet that need for area patients, Kar’s is going nuts over a special weeklong partnership with the American Red Cross.

Kar’s will offer free snack-sized packages of their “Sweet N Salty” mix to every blood donor from Sunday, July 3 through Saturday, July 9.

“The Red Cross provides a vital service to this community,” says Nick Nicolay, president and CEO of Kar’s Nuts. “We want to take this opportunity to thank the Red Cross as well as those who donate blood to save lives, and also encourage others to make a blood donation.”

“We appreciate the generosity of Kar’s during this vital summer week, when so many people travel, and donations plummet,” says Diane E. Ward, CEO of the American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region. “The Red Cross supplies blood to more than 50 hospitals in the five-county southeast Michigan area; about 5,000 donors are needed every week to meet our needs. Summer remains a challenging time, so the promotional is welcomed.”

To donate blood, donors must be in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be 17 years of age or older. Please make a blood donation appointment today, call 800-GIVE-LIFE.
