Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Departemen Pendidikan Nasional Republik Indonesia (DIKNAS), or the Education Department of Indonesia, has deployed Juniper Networks J2300 routers as part of a nationwide virtual private network (VPN) build-out. The J-series routers form the basis of DIKNAS’ nationwide network which will provide Internet access to thousands of schools. Deployed in late 2006, the network also serves database applications, video conferencing and other network applications related to the operation of Indonesia’s education system.

“This is the first phase of our nationwide education network deployment which is on track to eventually connect thousands of schools,” said Bondan Sapto Prakoso, the Technical Team Leader at DIKNAS. “It is imperative that Indonesian students and schools be supported by a modern communications infrastructure offering not just access to Internet resources but the interchange of education materials and operational information.”

Juniper Networks J-series routers offer predictable high performance and a variety of flexible interfaces that deliver secure reliable network connectivity to remote, branch, and regional offices. They run modular JUNOS software which offers advanced routing (including support for MPLS, IPv6, QoS, and multicast) and security (stateful firewall and IPSec VPN) services, delivering high levels of security, uptime and performance at reduced operations costs. The J-series offers the performance headroom and extensible memory to meet future demands, providing unmatched reliability, investment protection, and value for the enterprise. The DIKNAS network extensively leverages the J-series’ support for multicasting and MPLS.

The DIKNAS school network is remotely managed by PT Telkom, Indonesia’s largest telecommunications service provider, in conjunction with Juniper partner, Siemens Communications. Both companies will provide ongoing support and additional development for DIKNAS.

“Our success in implementing the DIKNAS nationwide network is a testament of a close partnership that we have established with our respective customer, PT Telkom,” said Dieter Klein, Director Siemens Networks Indonesia. “We are strongly committed to leverage this current success into future expansion of the DIKNAS network.”

“The J-series router is an ideal platform for distributed networks such as DIKNAS’ nationwide network infrastructure,” said Wan Ahmad Kamal, Juniper Networks’ sales director - Malaysia, Indonesia & Brunei. “It is an enterprise-oriented device created using Juniper’s extensive carrier experience and, by virtue of its lower operational overhead, can help facilitate the growth of Indonesian enterprises requiring a rapidly deployed solution to support branch office growth.”
