Culligan International Company Debuts Smart-Sensor™ Series Water Softener

Culligan International Company, a global innovator of high-quality water treatment solutions for residential and business use, announced its new Smart-Sensor™ series water softener. Smart-Sensor™ improves efficiency and simplifies maintenance with a new indoor/outdoor system. Culligan’s Smart-Sensor™ technology includes the patented Aqua-Sensor®, Soft-Minder® Meter and AccuSoft® Plus circuit board, and is backed by the company’s expansive local dealer network.

“The Smart-Sensor™ series is ideally suited for both larger homes and smaller businesses,” said Amy Hansen, Director, Product Management for Culligan. “Homebuilders and homeowners are always looking for new and innovative solutions to simplify their lives and create their dream homes. Proprietors of smaller commercial establishments such as restaurants, salons and spas are also in need of water treatment systems that can save money and improve customer service.”

Smart Technology for Smart Buildings

Whether used in the home or business setting, the Smart Sensor™ water softener components work on several levels to automate processes and save salt, water, electricity and associated costs. Culligan’s newest technology innovations include:

Aqua-Sensor® – Conductivity probe that detects differences in water hardness passing through the resin bed. Initiates regeneration only when needed based upon water hardness. Automatically adjusts to changes in raw water hardness and water consumption.
Soft-Minder® Meter – A state-of-the art, demand-initiated regeneration (DIR) meter that continuously monitors water use and adjusts to accommodate fluctuations in water consumption.
AccuSoft® Plus Circuit Board – Provides self-diagnostic alerts with audio and visual signals and status documented on an easy-to-read, backlit display. Alerts users to check salt levels and when service is required. Holds power up to 24 hours in case of an outage.
Additionally, Culligan’s Smart-Sensor™ water softener has been designed with a special enclosure that allows certified outdoor installation.

Larger Homes Need Larger Flow Capacity

Using softened water throughout the home leads to softer hair and skin, cleaner dishes and brighter clothes. Homeowners’ demand for larger living spaces is reciprocated by a demand for larger quantities of water. Contractors continue to build luxury homes with three or more full baths with whirlpools or multi-jet showers, more than one kitchen, and even laundry rooms on every floor. These heavy water usage requirements need to be met with a water treatment system that is specifically built for larger homes.

Culligan’s Smart-Sensor™ 1 ¼” series water softener has been designed to accommodate the specifications of expansive homes with higher flowing plumbing systems of up to 22 gpm. Higher amounts of water can be treated in less time with lower pressure drops throughout the home. Multiple appliances can run simultaneously, or more than one person can take a shower at once without experiencing a pressure drop problem.

Food Service, Salon and Spa Businesses Require Cost Saving Measures

Small businesses like independent and franchise restaurants, coffee and snack shops, and salons and spas also can benefit from Culligan’s Smart-Sensor™ water softener to save costs and enhance the customer experience. The Smart-Sensor™ can support 1” or 1-1/4” supply lines, comply with industry specifications, is efficiency rated and designed to minimize the amount of regenerant brine and water used in operation. Food Service: Softer water protects restaurant equipment such as ice/coffee machines, dish machines, water heaters and steamers by preventing scale build-up that can lead to expensive repairs and even replacement. Spot-free glasses, dishes and flatware and reduced cleaning needs on restroom fixtures contributes to more satisfactory and repeat customer business. Salon and Spa: patrons get what they want – noticeable differences in shinier hair and softer skin while aestheticians achieve a better lather when using shampoos, scrubs and soaps on clientele. Owner/operators also can prevent scale build-up on all water heating and handling equipment, especially the small nozzles found in pedicure chairs and facial steamers, which can damage these high-cost appliances.
