CNN ImageSource Online Archive Puts Footage at Clients’ Fingertips
CNN ImageSource, the footage licensing arm of CNN Worldwide, has launched a dramatically redesigned Web site that provides filmmakers, corporations, media producers and other video professionals with the ability to browse video from its extensive collection of news, entertainment and lifestyle footage.
The CNN ImageSource online catalog contains more than 400,000 items, and the collection comprises footage owned by the network and material from sources it represents, which at present are more than 700 U.S. news affiliates and the French news agency AFP. The new Web site offers registered users access to more than 80,000 video items for browsing and provides features such as online ordering, saved searches and FTP delivery of non-watermarked, high-resolution files.
“Providing access to CNN ImageSource’s footage archive through the Internet enables us to truly put the wealth of our content at our clients’ command,” said Kathy Christensen, vice president, News Archives & Research, CNN. “With this new service, customers get quick turnaround on the high-quality footage they want and need.”
The archive dates back to 1980 and is accessible at www.CNNImageSource.com. In addition to news footage, the Web site includes science and technology, travel, entertainment and sports video, and consists of both uncut and edited material, giving users a wide variety of video to browse.
Headquartered in Atlanta with an office in London, CNN ImageSource maintains an historic archive of material amassed from more than 25 years of the network’s newsgathering operation. It also represents footage from more than 700 CNN affiliates and the French news agency AFP. Established in 1987, the division handles footage licensing, talent clearance, public display and transcript reprint permissions and third-party representation deals. Its Web site, www.CNNImageSource.com, provides online search and ordering, video browse and digital file fulfillment.
