Waterworks investments flow into IT: Siemens to build and operate control center for the Bratislava Waterworks Company

WEBWIRE

Siemens is to upgrade the water and sewage system of the Slovak Bratislava Waterworks Company (BVS), set up an integrated control facility and operate the entire IT system for four years starting from the end of 2007. The waterworks will thus be able to manage its operations centrally and lower its operating costs. The contract is valued at some 18 million euros (630 million Slovak crowns) and will run until 2011.

The BVS has the most customers in Slovakia. By November 2007, the company’s complete water and sewage system with its 310 subsegments will be upgraded to state-of-the-art technology and merged in the new control center. Starting at the end of 2007, Siemens will take over operation of the IT system, assume responsibility for software maintenance and distribution and hardware servicing, as well as operate a telephone help desk for employee questions.

With the new computer aided control system, the BVS will be able to lower costs, reduce water waste, optimize line repair and maintenance and standardize their end customer invoicing.

“This will allow us to make our administrative processes more efficient and optimally distribute water resources. In addition, the upgrade will help us maintain stable water prices”, says Daniel Gemeran, Director General of the Bratislava Waterworks Company corporation.

The project will be implemented by the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services and Siemens IT Solutions and Services Groups together with Siemens Austria.
