Instore desks prove big hit for Tesco direct customers

WEBWIRE

Tesco Direct has announced that it will be installing up to 200 desks in stores across the country later this year, allowing customers to order and collect non-food products from a store of their choice.

The move follows fantastic feedback from customers who have used the desks at the handful of pilot stores since the service launched last August. Shoppers said that they liked the convenience of being able to collect or order products at the same time as they do the weekly shop.

Over 7,000 non-food products are now available from a new, bumper 1,000 page catalogue. And over 11,000 products are now available on the website. The new catalogue, hitting stores today, is over 5 times the size of the initial catalogue and hosts products from sit on lawn mowers and swimming pools to kitchenware, electricals, cameras, bikes and golf clubs.

Steve Robinson, CEO Tesco Direct, comments:

“The Tesco Direct experience is designed to make customers’ lives easier. The convenience of ordering and picking up Tesco Direct products in stores has proved particularly popular with customers, which is why we have made a decision to roll out the desks to a further 200 stores later this year.”

Tesco Direct customers can choose the product they want on the website or from the catalogue and then order in one of three easy ways:

* At the Tesco Direct desks
* On-line via the tesco.com website
* By phone

Steve Robinson continues:

“Tesco is the first supermarket to offer next day delivery on non-food items as standard, plus the option of a two hour time slot for the home delivery of smaller items seven days a week, up to 11am on weekdays. So whether our customers decide to order and/or pick up Tesco Direct products at the instore desks, or would prefer to make the order online or over the phone with delivery direct to their door it couldn’t be easier.”
