RALEIGH, N.C. - ARCADIS (NASDAQ: ARCAF)(EURONEXT: ARCAD) has been awarded the design and construction administration services contract for the Downtown Cary Streetscape project.

The streetscape project will encompass over two miles of downtown streets in Cary, North Carolina. The design will realize the vision created by the citizens of the Town during a master planning process. This streetscape will create a unique identity for downtown Cary that sets the town apart from other communities. The plan embraces the heritage of the city area, while creating a desired destination that meets the needs of its citizens, businesses and visitors.

Design features such as roundabouts, raised intersections and other unique streetscape elements tailored to the community will be utilized. The streetscape will incorporate pedestrian-friendly design elements such as on-street parking, plantings and widened sidewalks. Opportunities will be provided for public art to permeate the overall design. Art will be integrated into elements such as lighting, benches, bus shelters, signage, trash receptacles, paving materials and sidewalks. A comprehensive public and stakeholder involvement plan will be implemented throughout the life of the project.

Bryan Mulqueen, sr. vice president of ARCADIS said, “We are thrilled to be selected for this highly visible and significant project for the Town of Cary. Our proven experience internationally and our strong local resources will bring value to the community and help to create a foundation for future economic vitality for the Town of Cary.”

“The experience of the ARCADIS project team made them the most highly qualified group. The team’s project approach was detailed and their understanding of the project was solid,” stated Kyle Hubert, senior engineer for the Town of Cary.

Communities that invest in streetscape projects typically see a financial return over time. Since the 1990s, there has been an increased focus toward creating healthy and vibrant downtowns in communities across the nation. These downtown initiatives enhance the quality of life for citizens by developing genuine public gathering places and providing housing, work, shopping, culture, entertainment and tourist attractions.
