New York Blood Center and MetLife to Hold Grand Opening of New Blood Donor Center at 200 Park Avenue
-- Newest Blood Donor Center donated by MetLife set to open on Thursday, June 16
MetLife has generously donated the space for a new blood donor center on the mezzanine level of 200 Park Avenue to New York Blood Center (NYBC). Robert Benmosche, chairman of the board and CEO of MetLife will be joined by Robert Jones, MD, president and CEO, New York Blood Center, Howard Milstein, chairman of the board, New York Blood Center, and Thomas A. Madden, Jr., managing director, Tishman Speyer Properties, to cut the ribbon on the new center and open the location to the public in time for the crucial summer season.
During a brief presentation, FDNY firefighter Joseph DiBernardo, survivor of last Januaryís Bronx tragedy, which claimed the lives of several FDNY firefighters, will share his personal story of how blood was critical to his survival and recovery. The presentation will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony after which VIP representatives from MetLife, Tishman Speyer Properties and NYBC will roll up their sleeves and become the first to donate blood in this new state-of-the-art blood donation center. The new center should help to not only alleviate some of the 50,000 units of blood NYBC must procure each year from other blood centers around the country, but also work to ease the chronic summer-long blood shortages that typically afflict the New York areaís summer blood supply.
The new donation center is located on the mezzanine level at 200 Park Avenue and will be open for the public to donate blood. The ceremony will be attended by many area VIPís and NYBC contributors, and marks a welcomed addition to the ever-expanding family of NYBC facilities and donation opportunities.
