Germany’s Ethernet WAN specialist TeraGate deploys Alcatel-Lucent IP solution to enhance business service delivery
Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that Munich-based Ethernet WAN specialist, TeraGate, has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s IP solution as the foundation of its Ethernet VPN service introduction to corporate customers in Germany and around the world. As a result, TeraGate is able to introduce advanced new services to the market that differentiate the operator based on their unique customer-driven interactivity.
The Alcatel-Lucent MPLS solution is the basis for TeraGate’s delivery of Virtual Private LAN services (VPLS) to its client base, which includes major organizations such as banking, insurance and financial services organizations, governments, and large, multi-site corporations. It provides TeraGate a cost-effective and scalable Ethernet/IP-based platform that offers unparalleled levels of service assurance, quality of service (QoS) and customization, enabling TeraGate to meet stringent Service Level Agreements and giving the operator a clear edge in a competitive marketplace.
TeraGate selected the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router (SR), 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) and 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). Alcatel-Lucent is also providing TeraGate with managed services, including field services, Level 2 and 3 support, network operations and 24/7 monitoring.
Alcatel-Lucent’s IP solution is ideally suited to TeraGate’s customers. The new product line TeraGate IntelligentEthernet® enables point-to-multipoint connections for linking multiple company sites or data centers.
Using the Alcatel-Lucent solution TeraGate is now able to deliver multiple services in different service levels to one customer with complete transparency. Furthermore Teragate’s customers can proactively track QoS and regulate bandwidth on their own. The customer web portal “TeraWeb“, exclusively developed by Alcatel-Lucent for TeraGate, gives TeraGate’s customers the freedom to modify services and adapt bandwidth according to organizational demands. The MPLS network also serves as the basis for further value added services like VoIP, video streaming and on-demand services.
“The flexible system concept of Alcatel-Lucent is strengthening our market position, on a national as well as international basis, towards an end-to-end Ethernet service” said Ulf Kramer, Chief Technology Officer of TeraGate. “The continuous solution concept combined with an excellent cost/performance ratio will bring sustainable benefits for our customers.”
“TeraGate is a very innovative and dynamic operator with challenging targets. Our goal is to deliver an advanced technological solution, and complement that with broad support for the business needs of a fast-growing company such as TeraGate,” said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP activities. “Based on our solution, TeraGate will be able to offer an unprecedented quality of experience to its customers.”
TeraGate joins more than 160 service providers in over 60 countries who have selected the Alcatel-Lucent IP portfolio. According to Ovum-RHK, Alcatel-Lucent was #2 in the IP/MPLS Edge market segment in Q4 2006, with 19% market share.
Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is a class of VPN that allows the connection of multiple sites over a single-bridged domain over a provider-managed MPLS network. The network and applications run more smoothly as all ICT functions are linked as if they were on a single LAN. Alcatel-Lucent has played a key role in VPLS standardization within the IETF, having authored multiple standards including the most recently ratified: RFC 4762 VPLS Using Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) Signalling.
TeraGate has its focus on the development and realisation of highly available data connections for company networks and data centre connections and therefore has the most modern Ethernet technology for it’s first choice.
As a telecommunication service provider TeraGate is working for midsize and large customers nationally and internationally and delivers individual and customized network solutions. Well-known customers as e.g. “Die Bahn” or “Infineon Technologies AG” trust in the services and the performance of TeraGate.
In 2005, TeraGate won the „Deloitte Technology Fast 50“ award in Germany and achieved the 2nd place at the „Deloitte Technology Fast 500“ in the EMEA region. The company is therefore the top of the fastest growing technology companies. The TeraGate AG, a subsidiary of the “Deutsche Bank” and the “EGORA Holding”, was founded in 2000 and has it’s headquarter in Munich.
