Motorola Mesh Technology Wins Again at Super Bowl XLI

WEBWIRE

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that the Miami-Dade Police Department deployed the Motorola Event Management Solution, featuring its MOTOMESH™ multi-radio broadband wireless network and biometric technologies to enhance public safety measures during Super Bowl XLI. Additionally, Motorola MOTOBRIDGE™ was used to deliver the interoperability of mission critical information as part of its secure communications suite.

While players and fans concentrated on the game, public safety officers and agents from state and federal law enforcement agencies relied on the Motorola wireless broadband network to monitor real-time video surveillance and access mission critical applications. Motorola and video security solution provider, NICE Systems (NASDAQ:NICE), provided a deployable surveillance system, which allowed wireless cameras to be strategically operated from numerous vantage points throughout the stadium. The Motorola Intelligent Video Solution featuring the NiceVision® Digital Video Surveillance was used by security teams surrounding the game to have wireless access and control of the live video surveillance to assist in securing the venue.

The MOTOMESH network delivered seamless connectivity to video and other mission critical data applications over the secure 4.9GHz public safety band to police headquarters and command vehicles in various locations, increasing overall situational awareness and responsiveness. The MOTOMESH network provided officers access to mesh video surveillance cameras, allowing them to pan across the crowd, zoom in and out, in real time, while viewing live streaming video via mobile command posts operating on Motorola ML900 Rugged Notebook Computers.

Augmented by the real-time video streaming capabilities of MOTOMESH, Motorola Biometric Solutions provided on-site access to Miami-Dade Police Department’s criminal database. The Motorola Biometric Solution used consisted of the hand-held Motorola Mobile Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) connected wirelessly to the Motorola Printrak Biometric Identification System (BIS).

Interoperable Communications
Motorola provided public safety personnel, from the FBI to the Super Bowl operations staff, access to the 4.9GHz public safety band in order to securely monitor the stadium, while providing a single interoperable solution for the various agencies. The state deployed seven Emergency Disaster Incident Communications System (EDICS) trailers to allow the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to coordinate between agencies using different communication technologies and protocols. The EDICS trailers (one in each of seven administrative regions) have been designed to enable public safety interoperability through Motorola’s MOTOBRIDGE soft-switch technology. These trailers house multiple-voice radios of different frequencies and bands and manufacturers - as well as several MOTOBRIDGE - and connect police, fire and public safety personnel from different jurisdictions through Florida’s SUNCOM network.

“Recognized as a proven leader in public safety and municipal WiFi deployments, Motorola is thrilled to have been chosen for the second year in a row to provide wireless network communications to the security teams responsible for the safety of those attending a time-honored event like the Super Bowl,” said Mark Moon, senior vice president, government and commercial markets, Motorola Networks & Enterprise. “Committed to our vision of seamless mobility, Motorola provided the multitude of security personnel with access to the critical voice, video, and data information which was one of the many factors they needed to keep everyone safe"

The Motorola Event Management and MOTOBRIDGE solutions offer municipalities and public safety organizations the interoperability and collaborative technologies to wirelessly connect to the mission critical applications they need, regardless of event size or scale.
