Noted Los Angeles Publicist to Implement PR for Docu-Drama, “Punctured Hope”

Bruno Pischiutta, President and CEO of Toronto Pictures, Inc., has just announced the appointment of veteran Los Angeles publicist, Dick Delson, as President of Marketing & PR for the Canadian-based film company.

Delson is founder and proprietor of Dick Delson & Associates, a prominent PR agency providing comprehensive public relations, advertising, promotional and marketing services to the entertainment, publishing, corporate and governmental sectors.

Delson, who founded the firm in 1984, has been involved in high level policy and project planning and execution for entities such as Walt Disney Productions, Filmways Pictures, MCA, Inc./Universal Pictures and the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. In 2003, he shared honours with George Lucas as a recipient of the prestigious Golden Satellite Award from the International Press Academy for Outstanding Service to the Entertainment Industry.

In addition, Delson has provided publicity for the People’s Choice Awards and strategized numerous Oscar & Golden Globe campaigns. Three years ago, motion picture clients scored a record 40 nominations in the 2002 Academy Award competition and won 9, including 8 for Miramax’s Best Picture win “Chicago.” Delson also worked on the film “Gangs of New York.” Most recently, films publicized by Delson included “Kill Bill” Volumes 1 & 2.

Delson has served as publicist to countless celebrities, authors and professional athletes, including James Coburn, whose Oscar campaign for “Affliction,” Delson successfully designed and executed.

Other personalities include Clarence Gilyard (“Walker, Texas Ranger”), Robert Culp, Peter Graves, Lou Gossett, Jr., Sylvester Stallone, Marsha Mason, George Segal, Fred Dryer, Robert Davi, Paul

Sorvino, Chuck Norris, Roddy McDowall, Len Lesser (“Seinfield’s Uncle Leo), Mackenzie Phillips, Walter Matthau and Laurie Holden (”The X-Files"), among others. Literary clients have included Harold Robbins and Iris Rainer Dart; sports clients have included the California Angels, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Gary Player.

As head of Toronto Pictures’ media division, Delson’s initial project will entail developing and supervising the media campaign for the Company’s new film, Punctured Hope, a dramatic expose of the enslavement of young girls and women in West Africa. The film, which is slated for release in the U.S. in December, 2005, is being co-produced by Transcontinental Film Financing Company. Illya Bond and Morris Kuzemchuk are Associate Producers for the docu-drama, which is being directed by Pischiutta.

In concert with Toronto Pictures’ commitment to develop and market films that are financially viable yet violence-free, Delson will work to generate PR for the docu-drama that will underscore popular attendance and simultaneously enhance public awareness relative to these repressive practices.

Commenting on Delson’s appointment, Pischiutta notes, “I am certain that Mr. Delson’s expertise in marketing and PR will underscore the efforts of Toronto Pictures, not only in publicizing this extraordinary film, but also in making a political and cultural difference in the lives of thousands of enslaved African women.” Toronto Pictures Vice President Daria Trifu goes on to add, “ Because our Company is dedicated to producing films of a topical, timely nature, and because we hope to influence political and governmental change through our films, Dick’s expertise in expanding the reach of our PR and marketing efforts will prove invaluable.”
