MACON, GA --- (February 26, 2007) --- Noted Georgia author, columnist, and television and radio commentator Jackie K. Cooper has announced the release of his fourth collection of short stories, The Bookbinder: More Stories From the Road, published by Mercer University Press. The latest collection follows up the success Cooper garnered with his previous collections: Journey of a Gentle Southern Man: Reflections From The Road (1999); Chances And Choices: Further Tales of a Gentle Southern Man (2001); and Halfway Home: The Journey Continues (2004).

Cooper, one of Georgia’s most popular contemporary storytellers and humorists, is a movie critic for the NBC television affiliate in Macon , Georgia , and hosts the popular morning radio segment “Fridays With Jackie” on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

In The Bookbinder Cooper brings together a lifetime of reflection on life as a son of America ’s deep south. This latest of what will undoubtedly be another Cooper best-seller focuses on the theme of common experience, reflecting with 16th century English poet John Donne that “no man is an island.” Observes Cooper, “As we go through life we find that we are not as unique as we once thought. We have much in common with the person who lives down the street, as well as the ones who live across the globe. Lives are not lived in vacuums but rather in interactive communities.”

In The Bookbinder, Cooper offers a collection of lucid, memorable prose that will reach inside the reader’s heart and soul to strike chords of remembrance, reflection, and experience common to all individuals.

Author Jeffrey Deaver (The Cold Moon and The Vanished Man) calls The Bookbinder “a truly moving look at life in the South. Cooper’s stories are filled with poignancy, wit, and spot-on observations, and the writing is as easy and comfortable as a spring day in the Carolinas . The Bookbinder stands shoulder to shoulder with best writing from the South, echoing the work of Walker Percy and Shelby Foote.”

And bestselling author Patti Callahan Henry (When Light Breaks) writes, “ Reading The Bookbinder is like taking a long walk with Jackie Cooper as he helps us notice the grace and beauty in everyday life. Jackie weaves meaningful stories form the threads of the most simple moments of daily living.”
