Avid Customers Set the Standard for Creative Achievement at 79th Academy Awards

Tewksbury, Mass. – February 26, 2007 – Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today announced that all of the nominated – and award winning – films in the Best Motion Picture, Directing, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Documentary Feature, and Animated Feature categories at the 79th Annual Academy Awards® were created with at least one Avid®, Digidesign®, or Softimage® system. Nearly two-thirds of these nominees employed workflows consisting of multiple Avid systems, and for the seventh-consecutive year, every nominee for a Sound Editing Oscar® used the Digidesign Pro Tools® system.

“In telling the story of United 93, we attempted to find and then marry together the most believable, compelling moments from our dailies. Avid systems provided me with the powerful tools to do just that,” said Christopher Rouse, co-editor of United 93, 2007 BAFTA winner for Best Editing, ACE nominee for Dramatic Feature, and Oscar nominee for Film Editing. “We began with a couple Media Composer® Meridian™ systems and by the end of editing, post production had grown to eight Adrenaline [systems], all networked together on an Avid Unity™ system. Only Avid enabled our team to collaborate the way we did, which was an essential part of our creative process in exploring a difficult and emotional subject.”

Paul Rabjohns, supervising music editor for Dreamgirls, which was a Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, a BAFTA nominee for Achievement in Film Music, and an Oscar winner for Sound Mixing, said, “From the beginning of Dreamgirls, the music doesn’t stop. We loaded each Pro Tools system with hundreds of audio tracks, pushed them to their technical limits, and they never choked or lost accuracy. When I’m deep in an editing or recording session, Pro Tools becomes an extension of my right arm. I can throw anything at it, and it gets the job done. For any big film or studio recording project, Pro Tools is the standard, and the only system I’d ever use.”

“Whether large production teams are collaborating from multiple locations around the world, or an individual documentary maker is working on a project at home, Avid empowers all of its customers with the best creative tools to tell a story. It’s inspiring to see so many of our film, television, audio, and 3D animation customers recognized with the most prestigious industry awards, year after year,” said David Krall, president and CEO of Avid Technology.

Avid Customers Shine Throughout Entire 2007 Awards Season
The 79th Academy Awards concludes the 2007 awards season – one of the most successful for Avid and its customers – which also spans the Golden Globes, the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards, and ACE (American Cinema Editors) Eddie Awards. Across all of these awards programs, the majority of nominees and winners used Avid’s industry standard video, audio, and 3D animation tools such as Media Composer Adrenaline™, Avid Unity, Digidesign Pro Tools, and SOFTIMAGE®|XSI®. For a complete list of nominated motion pictures, films, television shows, and animated features that used Avid systems– as well as select customer profiles – please visit: www.avid.com/2007awardseason.

As in previous years, Avid’s customers also played a key role in delivering the annual Oscar telecast by providing pre-produced segments for the awards program and on-air graphics throughout the live awards show coverage. Graphic elements and high-definition visuals were provided by Fontastics, an LA-based broadcast graphics design and delivery services facility, using the Avid Deko® 3000/Hybrid system. Awards segments were assembled by DMS Production Services, Inc., using Media Composer Adrenaline and Avid Unity systems provided by Hula Post Production in Studio City, CA.
