Alcatel-Lucent joins WiMAX Forum® Board of Directors

Paris and Portland, Oregon, February 23, 2007 — The WiMAX Forum, an industry-led non-profit organization comprising more than 430 companies committedto promoting and certifying interoperable WiMAX products, today appointed Philippe Goossens of Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) to its Board of Directors. As a strong contributor to the WiMAX Forum, Alcatel-Lucent’s presence on its board of directors is indicative of the acknowledgement by wireless market leaders around the globe that WiMAX™ is a powerful option for delivering broadband Internet services anytime and anywhere.

Philippe Goossens’s biography
Philippe Goossens obtained his Master in Electronic Engineering, graduating as a civil engineer in electricity (Telecommunications) in 1971 from Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium). Upon graduating he joined Philips Telecommunications working on communications systems for rural areas in Brazil France and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh). In 1982, he joined Alcatel, where he held various research, technical, marketing and sales positions in France, the United States and Belgium. He served as an expert in communications for the European Commission, taking part in the 4th R&D Frame Programme (ACTS) and 5th R&D Frame Programme (IST). In October 2002, he was appointed head of Alcatel’s Network Strategy Group, based in Shanghai (China). In July 2004, he joined the WiMAX Business Unit as director of the WiMAX activities in the Asia Pacific region. In July 2006 he was given responsibility for developing strategic alliances for the company’s WiMAX business unit, which is based in Vélizy (France).
