Leading DNA Expert Makes Case for Determining “Who’s the Daddy”.

World renowned DNA Expert, Dr. Vincent Miller, from Chromosomal Laboratories and serving as a technical advisor to Boston Paternity, appeared on Court TV today. Jami Floyd, from the daily program Jami Floyd: Best Defense, interviewed Dr. Miller to discuss the DNA implications of the Anna Nicole Smith case.

Amid the controversy swirling around the possession of the remains of Anna Nicole and her estate is what the best interest of her baby Dannielynn is. The fight continues over the paternity of the child even as it has come to light that the will left by Ms. Smith leaves her estate to her deceased son. The will had not been updated since his untimely death and so young Dannielynn still stands to be the likely heir to the estate.

Determining the actual father of Dannielynn with modern technology is actually a straightforward issue that could be concluded in a matter of days, with or without a sample from Anna Nicole. However, having access to DNA from Ms. Smith would bolster the statistics, in addition to validating that the child tested is her actual biological offspring.

In a recent interview, Dr. Miller stated, “Paternity test results and conclusions are founded in statistics and probabilities. While motherless paternity testing is a relatively common practice, it can present a number of problems, including inconclusive results. Including the mother is always an important quality control step in the laboratory process.”

Certainly a paternity test done as soon as possible to rule out the “expectant fathers” would be one solution to allow the case to focus on the resolution of the estate and the well being of the child.
