Safaricom Selects Jinny’s Open Charging Gateway to Accelerate Roll-out of new Products and Services
5 million prepaid subscribers to benefit
BARCELONA, 12th February 2006 – Jinny Software, a leading supplier of personalised messaging and media processing platforms to mobile network operators, today announced that it won a deal with Safaricom to implement a Real-time Charging Gateway and Rating Engine for 3rd party content providers. The technology will allow Safaricom to charge for content and services. In addition, an IP Session Analyser (ISA) will enable the charging and rating of 2G and 3G Internet services such as Internet browsing, downloads and streaming.
Jinny Software clinched the deal with Safaricom by offering innovative and proven charging and rating solutions at a competitive price to accelerate the roll-out of new and innovative products and services to maintain its market leadership. Third party vendors will require an open charging gateway to be able to integrate these new products and services into the Safaricom portfolio and dynamically charge Safaricom’s predominantly prepaid subscribers.
Safaricom is a leading GSM operator in Kenya and the East African region. Its current customer base of over 5.5 million with increased subscribers expected as the company expands its geographic footprint. .Safaricom is a partnership between Telkom Kenya and Vodafone PLC , with the latter having a 40% stake in the mobile operator.
