Houston Laser Skin Resurfacing and Rejuvenation Center Introduces Portrait® to the Bayou City -- The Latest Wrinkle-Fighting Technology

HOUSTON, TX, February 5, 2007 – Houston laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation center, Skinovative, is introducing Portrait® to the Bayou City, the newest technology for tightening, toning and smoothing wrinkles. In this case, the wrinkle-fighting energy source is not laser heat, it’s plasma gas.

The new procedure is currently available only at Skinovative, the new Houston skin rejuvenation and resurfacing center that opened in December, three doors down from Nordstrom in the Galleria.

Portrait is FDA-approved and has been available widely in California, New York and Arizona med spas for about a year. “Now it’s Houston’s turn,” says Karen Bailey who owns and operates the Houston Skinovative skin rejuvenation center with husband Chris. “We’re proud that Skinovative is the first to bring Portrait skin resurfacing and rejuvenation to Houston.”

The new non-invasive technology has attracted considerable media attention, including coverage in “Time,” “Vogue” and “Harper’s Bazaar.” Experts say Portrait stands alone in its skin regeneration properties because it delivers comparable results to more traditional laser skin resurfacing techniques, “but without the extensive downtime,” says Houston physician Ken Hollis. Hollis is Skinovative’s chief medical officer. “Downtime is a huge issue with almost everyone,” he says, “and that’s one of the reasons Portrait is growing so in popularity.”

Hollis works with Beth Kramer, an advanced practice nurse as well as a team of certified laser technicians and medical estheticians.

Another thing that makes Portrait different from laser skin resurfacing treatments is the use of plasma gas. “Plasma is not just for television,” says Hollis. “It also performs beautifully in smoothing wrinkles and improving skin tone and texture.”

Hollis says patients typically experience a reddening of the skin during the first three to five days after treatment, followed by peeling when new skin is regenerated. “The plasma gas preserves the skin’s outer layers,” says Hollis. “This means your own skin acts as a protective dressing while the new skin regenerates.” Typical downtime for a high energy Portrait rejuvenation and resurfacing treatment is 10 days, three to four days for low energy procedures. And with the latest Portrait treatment plan called the ‘Portrait Express,’ there is no downtime at all.

The new Portrait plasma skin rejuvenation and resurfacing treatment, which also treats sun-damaged skin and is non-ablative, is an outpatient procedure that takes from 30 to 60 minutes to administer.

“The amazing thing about having a Portrait,” says Karen Bailey “is that the skin continues to show improvement due to collagen remodeling even up to a year after the procedure is performed. What’s happening is, you’re looking better and better all the time.”

Skinovative’s entry into the aesthetic medical center arena represents a first for Houston’s most upscale shopping mall. “There’s never been a licensed aesthetic medical facility in retail space in the Galleria before now,” says Karen Bailey. “We located here rather than in a Houston-area medical building because we wanted to bring the treatments closer to the clients who want them – busy people who want to look their best. We make it more convenient our mall hours.” Skinovative is open six days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Skinovative lobby area is appointed with sleek-looking light cases that display pictures and information about Portrait skin regeneration, laser skin treatments and other skin resurfacing and rejuvenation procedures.
