January 10, 2007- Bell Canada today announced a unique partnership with Barenaked Ladies that will support Canadian athletes participating in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

A portion of the proceeds from every concert ticket sold for the Barenaked Ladies BLAM tour across Canada will be donated to Own the Podium 2010, an initiative to help Canada become the top medal winner at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and place among the top three at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

"I don’t think I’m the only Canadian that feels a sense of pride when I see one of Canada’s athletes excel on the world stage. Maybe it’s the fact that they were able to achieve their dream in a country that I call home,” said Barenaked Ladies Bassist Jim Creeggan. “I know our athletes’ efforts send a strong message of hope to Canada’s youth and I’m glad to have this opportunity to support them.”

“Bell is proud to partner with the Barenaked Ladies in support of our Canadian winter athletes and Own the Podium 2010, which also supports initiatives focused on the research and development of new technologies to help improve Canadian athlete performances,” said Renato Discenza, Senior Vice President of Bell Canada, which is a Premier National Partner and the exclusive Telecommunications Partner to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

For example, Bell funds Dartfish, a world-class video analysis tool that allows Canadian Olympic coaches and athletes to overlay one athlete’s performance over another’s for precise, competitive analysis in both training and real-time competitive settings.

“Bell’s commitment to raising funds and national awareness for Own the Podium 2010 is a commitment to Canadian winter high performance athletes. The access to resources and technology, including Bell’s funding of video performance analysis will be a major contribution to so many success stories from now right through to 2010,” said Deidra Dionne, 2002 OIympic medalist. “Today, Barenaked Ladies join Bell to inspire Canadians from coast to coast to become part of the growing team that will help me and my teammates deliver the performance of a lifetime in 2010.”

Bell also announced today a chance to enter to win the ultimate Barenaked Ladies BLAM tour fan prize pack, including access to a sound check performance, private show meet-and-greet, and premium concert seating.
