SYNOPSIS: WiMedia Member Companies Partner to Deliver Integrated Hardware & Software for Bluetooth and Wireless USB Connectivity in Consumer Devices

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – 2007 International CES – January 9, 2007 – Sybase iAnywhere today announced it is collaborating with WiMedia Alliance member firms including Artimi and Staccato Communications to offer ultra-wide band (UWB) based Bluetooth® and Wireless USB embedded drivers to market for consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and mobile devices. As a member of the WiMedia Alliance, Sybase iAnywhere collaborates with other WiMedia member companies to develop specifications, certification tests, and educational programs. Sybase iAnywhere will exhibit in the WiMedia TechZone in Booth 13544 at the 2007 International CES conference, which is taking place in Las Vegas, NV January 8-11, 2007.

WiMedia® is the de-facto standard radio platform for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless networking. With efficient power consumption and high data rates, WiMedia UWB has been selected by the Bluetooth SIG and the USB Implementers Forum as the foundation radio of their high-speed wireless specifications for use in next generation consumer electronics, mobile and computer applications. Sybase iAnywhere’s experience as a contributing member to the Bluetooth SIG, and previous leadership roles within the IrDA and Open Mobile Alliance standards bodies will benefit the Alliance with seasoned participants and effective feedback.

Sybase iAnywhere is collaborating with WiMedia Alliance members including Artimi and Staccato Communications. Artimi is a fabless semiconductor company developing low power single chip WiMedia-based UWB silicon solutions for applications based on Certified Wireless USB and next generation Bluetooth over UWB. Staccato Communications is a UWB technology pioneer with applications expertise in Certified Wireless USB, Bluetooth and Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity; and has introduced single-chip, all-CMOS solutions to offer lowest cost, small form-factor and low power solutions. iAnywhere is a Team Staccato Partner Program member. Sybase iAnywhere is collaborating with both companies to bring Bluetooth over UWB and certified Wireless USB embedded drivers to market for consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and mobile devices.

“While many companies are focused right now on the hardware to make technologies like next-generation Bluetooth and Wireless USB work—the real need is for effective software to allow for interoperability and in multiple modes of operation,” said Colin Macnab, CEO of Artimi. “The combination of Artimi and Sybase iAnywhere’s product and development knowledge brings tremendous value to CE designers working with limited resources. Our media access controller software and semiconductor technology fits well with Sybase iAnywhere’s embedded Bluetooth and USB protocol stacks for high speed connectivity.”

“Our expertise with Bluetooth software provides a natural starting point for our involvement in specifying how Bluetooth will work with ultra-wideband transports,” said Nathan Pendleton, area vice president, Mobile Device Solutions, iAnywhere. “By partnering with key UWB semiconductor companies we will be able to provide quality, proven embedded Bluetooth-UWB Software SDKs and drivers.”

To support development efforts, the Sybase® iAnywhere® embedded software services organization provides a team of seasoned engineers that can supplement an existing development effort or provide turn-key software implementations for device manufacturers needing wireless expertise.
