EMC Infoscape Information Management Software Receives Technology of the Year Award from InfoWorld

WEBWIRE

Hopkinton, Mass.-Monday, January 8, 2007, EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that its EMC Infoscape™ software has won a 2007 Technology of the Year award for Best Data Classification Solution from InfoWorld magazine. EMC Infoscape enables customers to efficiently, accurately and easily search all corporate information in file systems, automatically classify information based on business value, manage the retention of unstructured information for compliance and facilitate policy-based and automated data migration across a tiered storage infrastructure. Selected by InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers from more than 230 products tested during 2006, EMC Infoscape was a product that represented the best and most innovative in its class.

InfoWorld praised EMC Infoscape’s easy to use interface and characterized the solution as having “a rich toolbox for automatically classifying files according to sophisticated rules. Using those rules, customers can automatically move files across different tiers of storage or analyze their impact via a rich set of pre-built reports. It’s a good, practical start to information lifecycle management.”

EMC Infoscape provides customers with a number of capabilities that have been missing in today’s information management products. This groundbreaking intelligent information management software automates and orchestrates information lifecycle management (ILM) services such as information protection, data placement on tiers of storage, regulatory compliance and information security based on the information’s value to the business. EMC Infoscape ultimately will enable customers to intelligently manage digital information in all its forms – by automatically discovering information, assessing its importance, and executing pre-defined ILM policies.

Mark Sorenson, EMC’s Senior Vice President of Information Management Software, said, “We agree with InfoWorld – EMC Infoscape will help customers take information lifecycle management to the next level of function, sophistication and benefit. As organizations are inundated with a variety of information management challenges, EMC Infoscape helps them automate a number of ILM tasks, thereby mitigating risk and reducing storage costs. We are honored by this award and will continue to provide customers with solutions that help control and manage the information infrastructure.”

EMC Infoscape leverages the investments EMC has made in software technologies – including the acquisitions of Smarts, Legato and Documentum. As a result, EMC brings multiple information management capabilities into one product, with one user interface, one customer installation and one management paradigm for information.
