“Freddie the Free-Range Chicken” (Kids Ahead, December 2006, ISBN 0976726955) by Sean Hannity show regular contributor Jill Vitale is a warm, loving story about a boy, a talking chicken…and a bull named after Sean Hannity?

“Yes, it’s true,” says Vitale, also known as “Flirty Flipper” to fans of the Sean Hannity radio show. “After all, bulls are usually the bosses of the barnyard.” But Vitale’s book, published this month by Kids Ahead, is about a lot more than playfully caricaturing the noted talk-show host. The book brims with the kinds of values parents want to instill in their kids -- values like honesty, persistence and the importance of family.

“Freddie the Free-Range Chicken” is the story of Jack, a young boy who lived on a farm with parents who loved him, but were always too busy with chores to play. That gave Jack plenty of opportunities for mischief...until Fredricka the Chicken introduced him to Sean the bull and the farm animals’ magical world of fun and endless imagination. But can Jack and his new animal friends save “Freddie” from becoming the next-door neighbor’s Sunday feast?

This beautifully illustrated book, with its uplifting message about love and perseverance, is one kids will turn to again and again. “I had a lot of fun teasing Sean and the other show regulars in the book,” Jill Vitale notes, “but the real point is that we’re a little on-air family…and family counts. That’s the message I want to impart to my own kids, and to kids everywhere.”

“Jill Vitale’s book is an excellent example of a story that extols traditional values,” notes Eric M. Jackson, president of World Ahead Publishing, the publisher of the Kids Ahead imprint. “I am proud that World Ahead had the opportunity to collaborate with her on this project.”

Launched in 2005, the Kids Ahead imprint publishes books intended for parents who seek to pass along traditional values to their children. “Freddie the Free Range Chicken” is the fourth title published under the imprint. Most recently, Kids Ahead released “Help! Mom! The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity!” (Kids Ahead, December 2006, 0976726920) by best-selling author Katharine DeBrecht, an illustrated title which features Hillary Clinton and Al Gore look-alikes trying to shut down a school Christmas pageant.

“Freddie the Free-Range Chicken” features a foreword written by Sean Hannity, and it is available for purchase online through Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com. A special retail edition will debut in stores nationwide next year.
