Turn- by-Turn Navigation Now Possible Across the Entire Nordic Region

Chicago, IL–December 18, 2006 – NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions announced that with the addition of complete Detailed Coverage for Norway and Sweden, all the Nordic roads have been fully attributed to the NAVTEQ® data specification. NAVTEQ’s Detailed Coverage enables the most precise functionality for customers using NAVTEQ® maps to develop the full range of navigation and location enabled applications, including turn-by-turn navigation applications requiring the most fully attributed and accurate digital map data. NAVTEQ’s Detailed Coverage maps include collection of up to 200 data attributes such as access restrictions, one-way streets and speed limits for each link in the road network, and the coverage of virtually every road from the highest volume multi-lane highways to the smallest residential streets. Additionally, over 60 categories of Points of Interest (POIs) are collected and geo-referenced to the road network.

“Completion of Detailed Coverage for the Nordic region is a significant accomplishment in our commitment to support our customers in their application efforts,” stated George Filley, Vice President of Product Management for NAVTEQ. “Because our Norway and Sweden maps are 100% collected and verified, our customers can now have confidence that their turn-by-turn navigation systems will accurately and efficiently route users across the entire region.”

Verifying map data that allows turn-by-turn navigation from Trondheim to Stockholm, Kristianstad to Hammerfest, is a formidable accomplishment. In addition to 860,000 kilometers of road, the geographical characteristics of the territory encompass mountainous terrain, numerous connected islands and seasonal conditions that force road closures and make signs difficult to see. Other mapping challenges included noting the location and details of internal ferry links and toll booths which vary in terms of day of time and days of week that tolls must be paid.

Customers using NAVTEQ maps in the Norway and Sweden for on-board or off-board navigation, internet directions, proximity searches, fleet applications, and business and enterprise solutions will be able to access over 27,000 points of interest, including over 4,300 petrol stations, 4,000 restaurants and 1,400 hotels.
