Delta celebrates worldwide partnership and premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s latest live touring show Corteo™ in Atlanta under the Grand Chapiteau at Atlantic Station Dec. 15-Jan. 28

ATLANTA, Dec. 12, 2006 – Delta Air Lines is officially launching its two-year global partnership with Cirque du Soleil by welcoming the Canadian-based troupe to its hometown, Atlanta, as it presents Corteo of which Delta is presenting sponsor. Corteo is the troupe’s latest live touring show, opening for a limited engagement in Atlanta on Friday, Dec. 15 under the Grand Chapiteau at Atlantic Station and will thrill audiences through Jan. 28.

To celebrate Corteo’s engagement in Atlanta, as well its worldwide partnership with Cirque du Soleil, Delta hosted a special performance by Cirque du Soleil at the Delta Air Transport Heritage Museum today. The unique, gravity defying performance took place around "The Spirit of Delta,” the airline’s employee-purchased Boeing 767, which is being transformed into the museum’s newest exhibition space.

“We are thrilled to partner with Cirque du Soleil to help them bring the spectacular Corteo performance to our hometown of Atlanta,” said Joanne Smith, vice president of Marketing for Delta. “The magic continues as we support other Cirque du Soleil performances across North America, Europe and Latin America. We know our worldwide customers will be delighted with these innovative and theatrically awe-inspiring shows.”

In addition to serving as the presenting sponsor of Corteo in Atlanta, Delta is the official airline of Cirque du Soleil in Düsseldorf, Germany (Dec. 7 – Jan. 7), London, England (Jan. 5 - Feb. 11), and Monterrey, Mexico (Sept. 27 - Oct. 28) and Mexico City, Mexico (Nov. 8 - Dec. 23).

“Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to partner with Delta as we both strive to offer our patrons a high-quality experience, whether seated on an aircraft or under the Grand Chapiteau. We essentially share the same goal; to take to our guests on a distinctive journey,” stated Mario D’Amico, vice president of Marketing at Cirque du Soleil.

About Corteo
Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music, by turns lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality. From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is now a major Quebec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment, with over 3,000 employees from over 40 different countries, including 900 artists.
