Physical Therapists Honor Senator Ensign With Its 2005 Public Service Award

Honoring his continued support and commitment to physical therapy, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) awarded Senator John Ensign (R-NV) with its 2005 Public Service Award. The senator was recognized in the Russell Senate Office Building during APTA’s Federal Government Affairs Forum in Washington, DC.

In February of this year, Senator Ensign introduced the Medicare Access to Rehabilitation Services Act of 2005 (S. 438), which would repeal an arbitrary cap on reimbursement for physical therapist services. “Passage of the legislation is necessary to prevent a significant number of Medicare beneficiaries to pay out-of-pocket or alter the course of their care,” said APTA President Ben F Massey, Jr, PT, MA.

“Senator Ensign continues to be a tireless champion for access to physical therapist services for seniors and persons with disabilities. We’re proud to work side by side with him on issues that improve access to care and we appreciate all that he has done for Medicare beneficiaries and our profession.”

The American Physical Therapy Association (www.apta.org) is a national professional organization representing more than 66,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research and education.
