05 Dec 2006 - HERNDON, Va. – EDS today announced it has been selected as a prime contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA Contractor Services (VCS) program. EDS is one of eight companies selected under a blanket purchasing agreement (BPA) worth approximately $1 billion, over a potential 10-year term, including options and award term periods.

Under the agreement, EDS will provide applications maintenance and sustainment services for Veterans Health Information Systems Technology and Architecture (VistA). The VCS vehicle will be available for use by authorized offices and organizations throughout the VA.

The new agreement will also ensure the continuity of services required to transform the VA software system into an open architecture, should the VA decide to move in this direction. “Over the past nine years, EDS has supported the VA on its VistA program to develop a world renowned clinical information system essential to fulfilling the nation’s promise to its veterans,” said Jim Duffey, general manager EDS U.S. Public Sector. “Through our team’s experience in addressing challenges such as electronic health record design and deployment, and user interface design, we look forward to helping the VA further maintain and sustain its system under this next generation BPA.”

As an incumbent VCS award recipient, EDS will retain the ability to provide a range of essential IT services to the VA. The EDS VCS team includes health care partners such as the Mayo Clinic, Oregon Health and Science University, the University of Utah College of Medicine, and Vanderbilt University. Technology partners include MomentumSI, Gorilla Logic, and Gordon Point Informatics as well as small, disabled veteran-owned businesses Patriot Technologies and Systems Made Simple.

“Over the course of our relationship, we have seen the VA surpass other health care providers in areas such as patient satisfaction and adoption of electronic health records,” said Mary Lamb, vice president, EDS VA Healthcare. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the VA and to build on the successes of VistA.”
