Leading Security and Availability Solutions to Support Businesses Deploying Windows Vista

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Nov. 30, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the availability of industry-leading security, backup, and availability solutions for Windows Vista that will help protect businesses from the emerging threats and IT risks.. Combined with a more secure Windows platform, Symantec’s solutions enable companies to deploy Windows Vista with the complete confidence that their systems and information will be protected and available, no matter what.

“Businesses deploying Windows Vista are offered new opportunities but are also faced with potential security, availability, performance, and compliance risks,” said Jeremy Burton, group president, Enterprise Security and Data Management, Symantec. “Symantec uniquely provides businesses of all sizes best-of-breed, Windows Vista-compatible software that helps mitigate IT risk.”

Since Windows Vista does not include virus protection, enterprises should deploy an antivirus solution alongside Windows Vista for real-time protection from viruses and spyware. Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 provides automatic defense and response against viruses and spyware/adware for the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and has been redesigned to make specific use of the new architecture that’s available in Window Vista. Symantec AntiVirus provides comprehensive malware protection for every network tier in an integrated, easy-to-deploy solution.

In addition, Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition 10.2 now includes Symantec Client Security 3.1, providing antivirus and antispyware for client systems on the Windows Vista platform. Symantec Client Security 3.1 provides proactive client protection from complex threats by integrating antivirus, antispyware, firewall, and intrusion prevention technologies under a single console. Protecting applications is especially critical since attacks today tend to be more focused and targeted and are aimed at client-side applications in contrast to previously observed, widespread, network-based attacks. Ghost Solution Suite will enable the deployment and management of Windows Vista software, and is a preferred solution for Windows Vista migration, deployment, and management. It provides rapid and reliable Windows deployment, migration, and software distribution and is recognized around the globe as a proven, trusted, and affordable solution for provisioning and management of Windows systems.

Its intuitive design together with comprehensive built-in tutorials makes Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 fast and easy to implement, configure, and learn. In addition to Ghost Solution Suite’s traditional stand-alone tools, its central management console simplifies the management of today’s complex desktops and notebooks as well as advanced remote and mobile systems. “Safeguarding our customers’ financial information and transactions is critical to maintaining our reputation as one of California’s strongest banks. As we start planning our migration to Windows Vista, we look to Symantec to provide solutions that will help ensure our new Windows environment will be secure and available,” said Bob Graham, senior vice president and CIO, Farmers and Merchants Bank. “From data protection tools like Backup Exec to market-leading security solutions like Symantec Antivirus, Symantec is a trusted Windows partner that helps us effectively manage our IT environment and enables us to protect our most critical assets—our customers.”

Organizations running Windows Vista will be also able to protect the data and systems on those desktops and laptops with Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers Desktop and Laptop Option and Backup Exec System Recovery Desktop Edition, the Gold Standard in Windows Data and System Recovery.

“We are pleased with the global security partner support we have received on Windows Vista and that our customers will have great security and availability solutions from Symantec for Windows Vista,” said Ben Fathi, corporate vice president, Security Technology Unit at Microsoft Corp. “Partners play a vital role in helping secure the Windows platform and Symantec has developed security technologies that will offer our customers a more secure computing experience on Windows Vista, Microsoft’s most secure operating system to-date.”
