NEC Electronics Announces Agreement with Trolltech to Integrate Linux Software with MedityTM Mobile Phone Chipset

Integration of Trolltech’s Qtopia Greensuite Facilitates Efficient Development of Linux-Based Mobile Handsets

KAWASAKI, Japan, November 28, 2006 - NEC Electronics Corporation today announced an agreement with Trolltech®, a leading Linux-based software provider, to integrate the company’s complete mobile phone software suite, Qtopia® Greensuite with NEC Electronics’ MedityTM 3G W-CDMA mobile phone solution and platformOViATM initiative. By using NEC Electronics’ Medity and platformOViA solutions complete with integrated Qtopia Greensuite software, mobile handset manufacturers will be able to quickly and easily develop handsets that run Linux-based operating systems while maintaining control over branding and user interface design.

Trolltech is a platformOViA partner and their Linux-based software solutions have enjoyed widespread recognition and respect and are currently used in millions of units worldwide. This reference integration is the first step toward the complete porting of Trolltech’s newly announced Qtopia Greensuite #1 – a complete mobile phone software suite that provides customers with a pre-integrated selection of market leading partner technology on top of Qtopia Phone Edition – to NEC Electronics’ Medity solution on platformOViA.

NEC Electronics’ Medity 3G communications chipset integrates digital baseband and wireless (RF) functions with power management on a single chip solution. The company also offers software development support in the form of evaluation boards and reference design kits, support tools for communications software and application software, and system integration services for transitioning of operating systems and middleware.

Through this agreement with Trolltech, NEC Electronics will port Qtopia Greensuite #1 to its Medity1 mobile phone solution, first introduced in September 2006, as well as its next generation mobile solution currently under development. In doing so, the company hopes to improve its competitiveness in the global mobile phone market.
