Symantec Backup Exec Wins the 2006 Diogenes-Storage magazine Quality Award

Results of Customer Survey by SMB Readership Underscores Symantec’s Position as Data Protection Leader

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Nov. 20, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Symantec Backup Exec has won the 2006 Diogenes Labs-Storage magazine Quality Award for SMB backup and restore software. The annual competition is a joint effort between Diogenes Labs and Storage magazine. Diogenes Labs, an IT advisory company, surveys subscribers of Storage magazine in five specific categories. Symantec Backup Exec won top honors for product features, product quality, and product reliability. Furthermore, 70 percent of those surveyed said they would purchase Backup Exec again, a third more than the closest competitor.

Developed primarily for small- and medium-sized organizations, Symantec Backup Exec 11d delivers continuous protection for mission-critical Microsoft applications like Exchange and SQL Server, and enables rapid data recovery. This significantly reduces the cost, time, and resources required whether customers are backing up to disk, tape, or both. Furthermore, it helps deliver e-mail continuity for businesses since continuous protection for Exchange allows data to be recovered as recently as just a second before a loss.

The Diogenes Labs-Storage magazine Quality Award along with the recent release of the MarketScope for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software report by Gartner giving Veritas NetBackup from Symantec a “strong positive” - the highest possible rating – underscores Symantec’s market position in the SMB and Enterprise backup and recovery markets.
