BroadRamp and Limelight Networks forge content delivery business development alliance

WEBWIRE

SAN ANTONIO, October 24, 2006 – BroadRamp Inc., inventor of the only seamless, universal multimedia content and application delivery platform, today announced a co-operative business development relationship with content delivery network (CDN) leader Limelight Networks of Tempe, AZ. Limelight Networks is the high performance content delivery network for digital media. Its advanced content delivery network provides the world’s top media companies with high performance delivery of video, music, games and social media via the Internet. The collaboration will be centered on BroadRamp offering streaming rich multimedia content delivery solutions in conjunction with Limelight’s industry-leading content delivery network.
BroadRamp CDS™ Content Delivery System utilizes proprietary compression algorithms to significantly reduce the size of video content files (typically 30- 90% compression), while maintaining all of the original fidelity, enabling a rich TV-like user experience with minimal overhead for the content provider. Users can experience instantaneous, high-resolution, large-screen multimedia content without having to select a media player to install or wait for typical download and caching of the media file.
Additionally, BroadRamp’s platform ensures only the portion of the file that is actually required by the user for viewing is sent over the network. This is a unique and elegant approach to Internet content delivery, vis a vis all other Internet media delivery methodologies that push as much of the content file as quickly as possible to the user’s temporary Internet folders to allow for software buffering and playback, a technique known as ‘flooding’. BroadRamp CDS™ utilizes an efficient technique that does not require typical caching and buffering of the entire media file as it is being played, significantly reducing the total amount of video streaming data needed to be transferred to support a given volume of user video stream playback.
The efficiencies of BroadRamp’s content delivery architecture can enable a rich user experience utilizing a normal web server infrastructure, without requiring specialized streaming media server hardware to support the delivery of the rich video content. Additionally, the ability to embed applications and e-commerce within the CDS™ content streams will enable new means of content monetization and revenue generation for content providers.
“Our partnership with Limelight reinforces the strength of our technology and provides content providers a powerful combination of delivery platforms, tremendous savings as well as revenue-generating opportunities,” stated Greg Nakagawa, president and CEO of BroadRamp. “We have experienced great success in working with infrastructure companies to enhance the value of streaming media solutions for content providers, and Limelight is certainly an industry-leader in this area”.
“We are excited about this collaboration with BroadRamp to leverage each other’s capabilities in providing an optimized content delivery solution for our mutual customers” said Erik Gabler, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Limelight. “BroadRamp has demonstrated an innovative approach to Internet content delivery that is able to drive both efficiency and revenue to any content provider”.
