Amsterdam, 9 November, 2006 - Elsevier today announced the anticipated launch of 4,000 scientific and technical books online in 2007. The program represents a major expansion to the reference works, handbooks and book series already available on ScienceDirect. At launch, the expanded program will comprise high quality selected eBooks titles published from 1995 to the present day. Approximately 50 titles will be added to the eBooks list on ScienceDirect each month following the launch, offering researcher’s unparalleled integration and linking between the latest online book and journal information.

“The success of Elsevier’s reference works, handbooks and book series on ScienceDirect proves that librarians and researchers see huge advantages in the availability of electronic book and journal content, fully linked and cross-searchable from one platform,” said Joep Verheggen, Director ScienceDirect. “Our customers want ready, easy, electronic access to quality content, to answer demand from their user communities and address their growing concerns about declining shelf space. The addition of these eBooks is a milestone in Elsevier’s delivery of premier scientific literature online.”

Elsevier’s award winning book titles including imprints such as Pergamon and Academic Press are widely consulted due to their quality and in-depth coverage of a broad range of scientific disciplines.

Key bestsellers that will be made available online for the first time include: Principles of Tissue Engineering, from Robert Lanza, Robert Langer, and Joseph Vacanti; Handbook of Forensic Psychology, from William O’Donohue, and Eric R. Levensky; and Marine Mammals from Annalisa Berta, and James L. Sumich. The ScienceDirect books program will render these and many other authoritative titles fully searchable and linked not only with referenced book series, handbooks, and reference works but also the world’s largest repository of full-text journal content. This development offers researchers a significantly broader perspective of their field of study, from a single industry leading interface.
